Founded immediately after the Second World War by physicist Kurt Klingsporn, KVG Quartz Crystal Technology GmbH has grown from a pioneering German crystal manufacturer into a globally respected, owner-managed producer of high-quality frequency control components. Today, KVG’s engineering and manufacturing operations remain entirely based in Neckarbischofsheim, near Heidelberg — a testament to the company’s commitment to German precision engineering.

KVG’s vertically integrated production model sets it apart. Operating a dedicated 750 m² quartz crystal manufacturing facility and an 800 m² oscillator assembly plant — including a 200 m² Class 1,000 cleanroom — KVG controls the entire process from raw quartz processing through to finished oscillator testing. This end-to-end capability ensures uncompromising quality, consistency and traceability across every product it ships.

KVG holds an ESA certificate of qualification for space-grade quartz crystals (awarded 2011) and DLR qualification for crystal oscillators (awarded 2013), making it one of the few quartz crystal manufacturers in Europe certified for both space and aerospace applications. KVG is also an authorised DESY industrial cooperation partner, producing the world-leading main oscillator and high-performance local oscillator modules in MicroTCA.4 standard for modern particle accelerators.

Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillators

KVG OCXOs achieve the highest level of frequency stability by maintaining the quartz resonator at a tightly regulated oven temperature, eliminating the influence of ambient temperature. KVG’s OCXO portfolio includes standard, low phase noise, low G-sensitivity (LGS), double oven (DOCXO) and vibration-isolated variants — as well as the newly announced D-RUG vibration-isolated OCXO module. Ideal for defence radar, electronic warfare, satellite communications and precision test equipment.

Temperature Compensated Oscillators

KVG TCXOs combine a high-frequency SMD crystal with advanced analogue or digital temperature compensation circuitry, delivering Stratum 3 frequency stability in compact surface-mount packages. The T-90000-RF-LF series achieves phase noise below −120 dBc/Hz at 100 Hz carrier offset in a 14 × 9 mm SMD housing. VCTCXO variants offer combined voltage tuning and temperature compensation for PLL and synchronisation applications.

Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillators

KVG VCXOs deliver precise, voltage-tunable frequency output with the inherent stability and low phase noise of a crystal reference. Available as standalone VCXO or in combination with temperature compensation (VCTCXO), these oscillators are widely used in phase-locked loop circuits, clock recovery systems and telecommunications synchronisation equipment across both SMD and through-hole packages.

Precision Crystal Oscillators

KVG’s fixed-frequency crystal oscillators and precision variants provide a stable, low-cost frequency reference for applications where temperature compensation is not required. Manufactured using KVG’s own in-house crystals, these oscillators deliver excellent ageing performance and long-term reliability. Used as clock generators, local oscillators and frequency references across RF systems, processors and digital communications hardware.

Precision Quartz Crystals

KVG manufactures precision AT-cut and SC-cut quartz resonators in its dedicated on-site crystal production facility, including IM HFF crystals and ESA-qualified space-grade units. Production processes include cutting, grinding, lapping, polishing, base plating, mass plating and both resistance and coldweld sealing — all within a 200 m² cleanroom environment, ensuring crystallographic integrity and dimensional consistency.

Crystal Filters & Discriminators

KVG crystal bandpass filters and discriminators deliver high selectivity, low insertion loss and excellent shape factor performance for IF and RF filtering stages in radio, radar and communications systems. Benefiting directly from KVG’s vertical crystal production, filter resonators are manufactured and characterised in-house, guaranteeing unit-to-unit consistency and repeatable performance across production batches.
